What's your text?

What's the notion of text? Can text be edication? Is a specific type of text only edicational? Many of the texts used today are not as edicational as they can be. But what exactly do we consider edicational? Text can be anywhere from a novel to televison to even just the clothes we wear. Text is all around us. In some way and form everything is text.

Reading a book, getting informed by the newspaper, wathcing the news, all various types of text that inform us about the world around us. Just because its informational does it mean it's edicational? I believe that the text we read for class, the news we watch on televeison, the newspapaers around us are all edicational in some way. But I also believe that the text read on our own, the television shows like Cribs and America's Next Top Dance Crew, and the comics read in the Sunday Post is more entertaiment than education. But it can be edicational to some people in some way.

Text is more than just something we watch or something we read, its a way of conveying a message. The way one sees something is a text in their mind, that someone else may not see. Looking at someone and their style is text in itself; their shirt may not have a brand name on it but their overall apperance is a way others see and read them. Someone wearing Abercromie or Hollister may be read as a prep, or jock , but they could really be a skater or in a rock band. Our minds are tought to read a text in one way and we don;t always look deeper into it.

My favorite type of text is music. Music has more than one text. The beats that get stuck in our heads, the catchy lyrics, the unforgettable band members, and the overall excitement of a specific song or band. Musical text is a great way to get a messge across. Eminem's lyrics are a good example of how life is told, stories are made, and unforgettable messages are obtained.

So no matter how text is potrayed or given out there's a message. It can be edication or not. The differant ways its looked upon can determine the edicational level. Just because it's not edicational to all of society does not mean it is not edicational to you. The text you read... you determine how edicational it really is.
